12 Recipe Tips for Success Every Time

This super flexible corn salsa can be made with roasted, grilled, raw, or frozen corn. It is both sweet and spicy and is filled with red onion, cilantro, Calabrian peppers, and a uber limey dressing that makes this salsa super addictive. Your tortilla chips don’t stand a chance!

Picture this… You found what appeared to be the perfect recipe, followed it to a T, and prepared yourself for a restaurant-worthy meal. Instead, you were met with a total disaster. Ugh! As disappointing as that can be, don’t hang up your chef’s hat just yet.

Trust me when I say that this happens to the best of us. Every mistake I’ve made in the kitchen has proven to be a super valuable learning experience. Today, I’m sharing my top recipe tips for success to help you create mouth-watering dishes every time.

Here are the top 10 essential kitchen tools every home cook needs:

1. Chef’s Knife

An exemplary chef’s knife can make all the difference in the world in both your food and your prep time. Trust me; mine is my best friend! You don’t need to blow your savings on the most expensive chef’s knife on the market, but you do want to invest in a quality product.

2. Cutting Board

If you don’t already have a heavy wooden cutting board, it’s time to get one! No more cheap silicone and plastic cutting boards. Not only are wooden cutting boards more gentle on your knives, but they’re also more sanitary and look much nicer in the kitchen.

3. Bench Scraper

This little guy is my saving grace! Bench scrapers provide a quick and easy way of transferring your freshly chopped veggies from the cutting board to the pan. It’s also convenient for pushing scraps into the trash can.

4. Garlic Press

More often than not, a recipe calling for fresh garlic will request that it be minced. I’ll let you in on a bit of secret—mincing garlic by hand is not fun! Save yourself the hassle and purchase a sturdy garlic press; you’ll thank me later.

5. Instant Pot

If you can only invest in one quality appliance for your kitchen, make it an Instant Pot. This incredible gadget can quite literally do it all! What would take you 4 hours in a slow cooker takes 45 minutes in the Instant Pot, with the same crave-worthy results.

7. Blender

I absolutely love my [brand name] blender! Designed to pulverize both wet and dry ingredients, blenders are a kitchen staple every home cook should have in their toolkit. A good blender is essential for making sauces, smoothies, dressings, and dips.

8. Food Processor

Whether you’re trying to quickly chop veggies, knead dough, grind meat, or make homemade apple butter—there is next to nothing a good food processor can’t do. I can’t even tell you how much time I’ve saved in the kitchen because of my food processor!

9. Sheet Pans

This should be a no-brainer, but every home cook needs a few decent sheet pans. You can use them for baking the perfect holiday cookies or a one-pan meal for those busy weeknights when ease is everything. Make sure to get a variety of sizes.

10. Airtight Storage Containers

As an avid meal prepper, I firmly believe that airtight storage containers are some of the most essential tools you can have in your kitchen. Even if meal prepping isn’t your thing, these are fantastic for storing leftovers and ingredients you ended up not using.

If you’ve got these 10 kitchen tools every home cook needs, then you’re in great shape already. Otherwise, you’ve got some shopping to do!
