Strawberry Hibiscus Slushie

Ingredients

Hibiscus Simple Syrup

  • 1 cup dried hibiscus leaves
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup granulated sugar

Hibiscus Strawberry Slush (Non Alcoholic)

  • 2 ½ cups frozen strawberries 325 g
  • 1 cup Hibiscus Simple Syrup 340 g
  • ¼ cup fresh lime juice 2 limes (60g)
  • 15 fresh mint leaves 1g
  • 2 cups of ice cubes crushed (240g)
  • [optional] Candied hibiscus flowers mint, and fresh strawberries for garnish

Hibiscus Strawberry Slush (Boozy)

  • 2 ½ cups frozen strawberries 325 g
  • 3/4 cup Hibiscus Simple Syrup 255 g
  • ½ cup rose vodka or tequila (170g)
  • 15 fresh mint leaves 1g
  • 2 cups of ice cubes crushed (240g)
  • [optional] Candied hibiscus flowers mint, and fresh strawberries for garnish

Instructions

To Prepare Simple Syrup

  • Turn on the heat to medium in a medium pot stir hibiscus leaves, water, and sugar together. Bring to a boil then remove from heat and cool for 15 minutes.
  • Pour syrup through strainer and press down on hibiscus to squeeze out the syrup.

To Prepare Slushie

  • Initial Blend: Place the syrup, lime juice, strawberries, mint leaves in a large high-powered blender. Blend for 15-20 seconds, or until large chunks are gone.
  • Add Ice: Add in the ice and blend or pulse until smooth. There should be no ice chunks and all ingredients should be fully incorporated.
  • Pour in glass and garnish with candied hibiscus, fresh strawberries and/or mint.

Notes

  • Place hibiscus syrup pan over an ice bath to cool faster.
  • If possible, crush the ice in advance. Breaking down the ice prior to blending, the easier it is for the slushie to come out with smooth results.
  • To avoid a watery slush, be sure not to over blend
  • To make a boozy version reduce hibiscus simple syrup to ½ cup and replace the lime juice with ¾ cup of your favorite alcoholic beverage.
